The 2nd Interdisciplinary Conference on Intersections of Visualization
Practices and Techniques

7th - 9th May 2008, Loughborough University, UK

Download the event flyer

This years vizNET conference aims to establish an international medium for
the exchange of new ideas and practical experience between researchers
working in the field of visualization from scientific and engineering
applications to the arts and humanities.

Visualization is no longer a tool just for scientists and engineers -
increasingly the arts and humanities communities are making greater use
of visualization techniques in their activities. There is a great deal
that the science, engineering, arts and humanities communities can learn
from each other.

The scope of the event covers a wide range of visualization topics that
are applicable for novice, novice-advanced, and expert visualization
users. The event will be an important opportunity to present and hear about
the latest research, results, and ideas in these areas, as well as their
applications. The full event will include 2 day introductory workshop on
visualization (for novice and novice-advanced visualization users)
followed by a third day of expert visualization users.

Registration is now open online at http://www.viznet.ac.uk/viznet2008

Call for Posters and Videos

Delegates are invited to submit an A1 poster of their work. There will
be tables available to demonstrate the work described by the poster
during the event. A prize will be awarded for the best poster.

Delegates are also invited to submit a short (3 minute) video clip of
their work. The video clips will be included in one of the early
presentation sessions, giving participants a chance to show off new

Interested parties may visit the OGDC website (http://www.ogdc2008.com/submissions.html) for further info, session submission guidelines and instructions.

About the conference

The Online Game Development Conference is the only annual game industry event with a laser-sharp focus on the rapidly evolving business of online game development on all its platforms. The 2nd Annual OGDC, to be held May 13-15, 2008 at the Seattle Waterfront Marriott Hotel in Seattle, Washington, will bring online game developers and business leaders together to celebrate and further the online game ecosystem.

Building on the great success of the 2007 conference, OGDC 2008 will expand the plenary sessions from two to three days, and feature a wide range of keynotes, sessions, and panels, giving attendees new views of the online game universe—everything from an overview of the latest business, product, and legal developments to in-depth looks at scalability, player psychology, and in-game economic systems. OGDC features acclaimed networking events, such as the opening night Welcome Reception and the official conference party.

Our theme for 2008 is redefining online. Redefining online means we’re actively exploring the boundaries of online game development, covering more than just MMO fantasy games. Console, wireless, virtual worlds, mash-ups, mobile, casual games – all of these categories intersect with online gaming. Online games are global and expanding into new markets that boxed games can't. Redefining online is an ongoing interchange of ideas and information that will involve everyone at OGDC.

Mixed Reality (MR) and Augmented Reality (AR) allow the creation of fascinating
new types of user interfaces, and are beginning to show significant impact on
industry and society. The field is highly interdisciplinary, bringing together
signal processing, computer vision, computer graphics, user interfaces, human
factors, wearable computing, mobile computing, computer networks, displays,
sensors, to name just some of the most important influences. MR/AR concepts are
applicable to a wide range of applications.

Since 1998, ISMAR and its forerunner events have been the premier forums in
this vital field (http://www.augmented-reality.org/iwar/). This year we are
proud to present the 6th IEEE and ACM International Symposium on Mixed and
Augmented Reality (ISMAR 2007). The symposium will be held on Nov. 13-16, 2007,
in historical Nara, Japan. We invite you all to participate in this great event

September 18-19, 2007
South San Francisco, CA

The 3D industry (stereoscopic, volumetric and holographic) is much more diverse and rich than most people realize. There are over 40 distinct market/application segments offering 3D solutions today. But there is little awareness of these applications across the industry, which is hindering the sharing of technology and solutions. There is also a key need to educate the customer community about the maturity and sophistication of 3D solutions. All this is needed to move the 3D industry from a series of niche applications to a broad market force with mainstream solutions.

As a result, Insight Media (IM) and the US Display Consortium (USDC) have organized the 3D Business Symposium & Exhibition (3D Biz-Ex). Our goal is create a “Big Tent” environment that will bring together developers, providers and customers in all of these 3D market/application segments. This has never been done before, and we believe it will create a unique environment for attendees to:

Gauge the full scope of the diverse 3D industry

Learn about other 3D applications

Network with other leaders in the industry

Develop technology/solution partnerships

Help customers understand the maturity and benefits of 3D solutions

Allow leaders to understand the key business issues facing market expansion

Enable greater understanding of technology innovations, market dynamics and strategic opportunities

Lay the groundwork for a major exhibition expansion in 2008

We invite you to attend this important event to take advantage of the excellent opportunity to meet with industry professionals and media representatives.
